Africa’s Power Supply: How Long Are the Lights Off Across the Continent?

Africa’s power capacity has historically suffered from insufficient consideration, evinced by sub-Saharan Africa’s 49 countries and population of 826 million having only four-fifths of the UK’s total power generating capacity.

Power projects have seen a drastic increase since the turn of the century; however, the scale of the power deficit will require a monumental top-down and bottom-up effort as well as innovation, due to the continent’s specific characteristics and the current sustainability zeitgeist.
