Video: Interview with Ghanaian Internet Genius Dr Thomas Mensah
Less than a decade ago, many African countries relied heavily on slow and expensive satellite connections for Internet and telephone calls.
In the last few years, there has been a revolution in communications via undersea fiber-optic cables dramatically increasing transmission capacity of data and drastically reducing transmission time and costs.
One of four original innovators and developers of fiber optics technology is Dr Thomas Mensah, CEO of the Georgia Aerospace Systems and an authority in fiber optics and nanotechnology.
The influential Ghanaian scientist was inducted into the American National Academy of Inventors earlier this year.
