President to Jack Ma: ‘Bring Alibaba’s Africa Headquarters to Ghana’

Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently urged Chinese business mogul Jack Ma to establish the headquarters of Alibaba Group’s Africa operations in Ghana.

Alibaba, one of the world’s biggest e-commerce success stories, was founded by billionaire Jack who earlier this year announced a $10 million fund for young, African entrepreneurs building online businesses on the continent.

President Akufo-Addo met with the Alibaba Executive Chairman during a state visit to China earlier this month.

On the President’s official Facebook page, a post about the meeting reads:

‘On Monday 3rd September 2018, I held a meeting with the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, Mr Jack Ma…

‘In our interaction, I also urged him to consider establishing the headquarters of Alibaba’s Africa operations in Ghana.’

Alibaba Group is currently seeking partnerships with African countries to help boost their export capacities using the Alibaba platform, and nurture tech talent.
